The green vertical bar between the track chart and milepost columns denotes stretches where public roads run next to the tracks and are good for pacing trains. The view of the track might be obstructed by foliage along some stretches, but that's just the way it goes. DRIVE SAFELY! Your photos or videos won't see the Net if you kill yourself and others chasing a train.

4QP = Four quadrant protection; median strips and sidewalks are poured in such a way as to prevent automotive traffic from bypassing the crossing gates when activated. This is a requirement for crossings where the train is not required to blow the horn.

Notes

Note 1: In late 2011 and through the first half of 2012 the Florida East Coast Railway greatly improved the “Port Lead” which was the original mainline to downtown Miami and on to the Key West Extension. It had been downgraded to excepted track, but now boasts concrete ties, continuous welded rail, and a passing siding just north of the old Buena Vista yard. The drawspan crossing over to Dodge Island was also rebuilt to permit ready access for trains to haul containers directly from the cargo docks.

As part of this rejuvenation the Little River wye was restored to allow movements from any direction to any direction. Previously the double track mainline forming the former north leg of the wye swung from compass southbound around to due west to head to Hialeah yard with the Port Lead remaining connected to the northbound main at the top of the wye. As part of the rebuild the south leg has been reconnected from the apex of the wye curving south to the Port Lead to head downtown. The former hand-throw crossover just compass west of the wye has been upgraded to a 30 mph power crossover as part of the wye interlocking to allow northbound trains coming up from the Port of Miami to crossover to the southbound main and head to Hialeah yard.

Additionally, this interlocking has been added to the CTC system, where it had been ABS before the project began. The dispatcher controls all interlockings at the wye and the crossover on the Little River branch.

Note 2: This note left blank accidentally.

Note 3: All Aboard Florida and Virgin America Trains have re-established passenger service. Higher speed express passenger service runs from Miami to Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach; upgrades are being constructed to extend service to Orlando International Airport. There are numerous competing interests and hoops through which they must jump, but they are making progress.

Passenger speed between City Place in West Palm Beach and Pompano South has been increased to 79 mph; freight speed has been increased to 60 mph.

Note 4: As of 16 November, 2014 the Port Everglades interlocking was cut in. New overhead signals control the double-track junction of the Port Everglades intermodal facility with the main track as well as a new crossover from the siding to main. New dwarf signals control the south end of the west yard track, old Andrews Avenue TOFC ramp, and the north end of the west storage track.

The spur off "PEV1" is called the "Motiva track" since it connects to the Motiva facility where 40-some tankers of ethanol are delivered daily for mixing with gasoline.

On 2019.04.07 P.T.C. (Positive Train Control) was cut in at the Port Everglades interlocking and the new Southbound Home Signal overhead mast was swung over the tracks and cut in to the ATC system. At the same time, the former Fort Lauderdale Power Crossover control point stopped reporting on the old VHF data channel. Nothing remains available to ATCSmon users south of Northwood; it will disappear as PTC is installed along the extension between West Palm and City Point to accommodate passenger service.

Note 5: Dania power switch was removed on 3 March, 2017 to straight-rail both the original mainline and the new A.A.F. west main through there. The intermediate signals have been converted to absolute holdout signals standing just north of NW 1st Street in Dania Beach. This had been the former south end double track (after it was extended here from CP Airport) before A.A.F. expansion.

Note 6: Deerfield interlocking was cut in some time in early April, 2017. The double crossovers actually lie in south Boca Raton and can be seen nicely from the Dixie Highway overpass.

Note 7: The switch at Villa Rica South was removed on 2017.04.28 which means 6.5 miles of continuous double track from Villa Rica North to the Deerfield crossovers.

Note 8: The West Main track between Deerfield and Fort Lauderdale crossovers was placed in service as of 2017.12.19. You will see rolling meets in Oakland Park for the first time in 40-some years.

2019.03.30 The long-time Fort Lauderdale “Power Crossover” was removed from service in the hopes of increasing congestion and removing flexibility for dispatchers to efficiently route trains.

Note 9: The town of Tequesta was not happy when switching moves blocked Riverside Drive for extended periods of time, so it is unlikely that the plant just north of Jupiter bridge will ever receive rail service again unless that problem can be mitigated.

Note 10: A new crossover was placed in service on 8 January, 2018 to allow southbound Tri-Rail trains interchanging to the F.E.C. Southbound Main to cross over to the Northbound Main and ultimately access Miami Central via the Port Lead. In time the A.T.C. system will be extended south to Iris so that both tracks will be controlled for bi-directional movements; in the meantime, the old A.B.S. system still governs movements between South Little River and Bing's Terminal. A turnout from the the S.F.R.T.A. (CSX/Seaboard Air Line) Track #2 (east main) has been installed to allow Tri-Rail trains to interchange between CSX and F.E.C. for future service plans.

Note 11: 2018.03.25 — The double track is in service between North Miami (Beach) and the former Frederick (nee-North Miami) crossover, which has been removed. This leaves Frederick as a holdout signal.

2018.03.03 — The signals governing North Miami (Beach) were placed in service. For now it is still single track between here and Frederick. The signals at Ojus South have been removed.

2018.02.19 — The switch at Ojus South was removed from service and the new West Main placed in service from Ojus South to the new crossovers at 163rd Street in North Miami Beach (Now Much Better!). Soon the switch at Frederick will be pulled up.

2018.04.25 — The bungalow and signals at Frederick have been removed; a fixed sign now stands in their place to signal crews where to call Hialeah yard master for arrival instructions.

Note 12: A new double crossover just north of where the old Villa Rica North switch used to be is known as Villa Rica even though it lies in the City of Delray Beach.

Note 13: The Hertwig double crossover was placed in service on 18 June, 2018 just south of Forest Hill Blvd.

Note 14: 2019.06.02 The Las Olas interlocking was cut in to the CTC system to complete the addition of the freight bypass track around the Fort Lauderdale passenger station. This also took the drawbridge off the legacy system, making it no longer viewable via ATCSmon, so the entire stretch between Miami and West Palm Beach is now dark to railfans.

As of 2021.02.08 the Fort Lauderdale freight bypass track is out of service.

Note 15: 2019.06.17 The new Northwood connection to the Seaboard Air Line southbound was placed in service. This new connection allows southbound trains on the F.E.C. Ry to make a simple move to continue southbound on the SFRTA corridor (former CSX and Seaboard). It was necessary to construct a second track because existing structures and a cemetery would have required curves too tight to use the existing connection track. So the new and old connections meet at a diamond next to Rosemary Avenue. The confusing names North Northwood and South Northwood didn't last long; they're now Northwood and Live Oak, thankfully.

Note 16: 2019.08.11 Pompano South double crossovers placed in service to allow 960 to cross from the Pompano Market siding track directly to the East Main to come home. ATC+ also extended north to Sample Road. 960 uses AAR60 (161.01 MHz) when doing extra switchin back in the Pompano Market.

Note 17: 2021.07.10 Contractors building BrightLine upgrades use AAR58 (160.98 MHz) between West Palm Beach and Miami, while they use AAR20 (160.41 MHz) around the Cocoa and Melbourne areas.
